NORFOLK, VIRGINIAAs you approach Norfolk from the south on the ICW, the scenery rapidly changes from a rural, marshy motif to a serious industrial look, complete with rusty abandoned buildings, barges and bridges. The closer you get, the more depressing things look until you round the last corner and before you is Riverview....aaah, several good restaurants and great beer at Rudy's.
As you leave Norfolk, you sail past Navy ships of all descriptions.
Between the Navy and commercial traffic, Norfolk harbour is a busy place with a lot of big boats.
As we entered the Chesapeake and headed for the Atlantic, we saw a returning submarine surface at a very high speed. It was going so fast that when it slowed down to the speed of other boats nearby, it looked as if it had come to a stop. It was an awsome sight, one that you don't soon forget.
